Pulp
A desktop app for video editors: preview motion-graphics templates, change their words, colours and fonts, and render them with transparency for your editing software. Open source, in early development.
Pulp is for editors who use lower thirds, titles, transitions and overlays. You browse a library of templates, preview them, change their words, colours and fonts, and render files your editing software can use. That includes formats that keep transparency, so the graphic sits on top of your footage.
Templates use an open, documented format: a folder with a short description file and an HTML animation. Anyone can write one in a text editor, with no store or subscription.
What works today
- Search across templates and your own media folders, with filters for resolution, length, codec and transparency.
- A live preview with play, scrub, in and out points, and title-safe guides.
- Rendering to ProRes 4444, PNG sequences, WebM and other formats that keep transparency, and to H.264 MP4. Transparent renders have been checked in Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve on a Mac.
- Vertical and square versions of a template, for social video.
- Your own logos and lines of text, which move with the template's animation.
- 124 original sample templates, free to use under CC0.
Status
Early development. There are no installers yet, so for now it runs from the source code; installers will come before version 1.0. Built with Electron and TypeScript; MIT licence. "Pulp" is a working name.
