Project

beanagileorg

A local-first workbench for engineering managers: sprints, retros, PI planning, one-on-ones, reports and decks, with your data kept on your own machine. Open source.

beanagileorg helps an engineering manager run a team's delivery, look after the people on it and report upward from one place, instead of documents, spreadsheets and chat. It assumes SAFe as the organisation's framework, with each team working in Scrum.

What it does

  • Today: overdue tasks and follow-ups, this week's one-on-ones with a drafted agenda, releases that aren't ready and reports that are due.
  • The team's rhythm: sprint planning against real capacity, retrospectives whose commitments are checked the next time, PI planning with a program board, and an ART sync log with an owner and a date on every cross-team item.
  • People: one-on-ones, growth paths, onboarding and a record of conversations.
  • Reporting: a weekly status drafted from what is already recorded, sprint and monthly reports, delivery metrics beside outside benchmarks such as DORA, and a deck builder.
  • Ask: questions in plain words, answered from your own records by a model you choose, local by default.

Your data stays with you

Two small web apps, the Toolkit and the Comms studio, run on your own computer and only accept connections from it. Everything is kept in one file on your disk. There is no account, cloud service or tracking. Every field has a privacy level, so you can share your screen in a meeting without showing private notes.

Works with Odysseus

beanagileorg can connect to an Odysseus server and use it for documents, local AI models and scheduled jobs. On my machine it uses my fork of Odysseus, and Ask runs on Ajax, my larger version of the Odysseus creator's Ajax model. Both apps also work without Odysseus.

Status

Working end to end and actively developed, with tests that run on every change. It is young, so the way it stores data may still change between versions. Written in Python; MIT licence.
