Odysseus (my fork)

My fork of Odysseus, an open-source AI workspace you host yourself, with voice, an assistant that knows the app, and readability fixes, set up for a Mac.

Odysseus is an open-source AI workspace you run yourself, for chat, agents, research, documents, email, notes and calendar. It is made by the odysseus-dev project. My fork adds features and fixes for a setup where Odysseus runs in Docker and the AI models run directly on a Mac.

What my fork adds

  • Voice: one microphone button for dictation, which stops by itself when you pause, and replies read aloud in a choice of 28 voices running on the Mac. It reads the answer, never the model's reasoning, and you can interrupt it.
  • An assistant that knows the app: the chat model is told what Odysseus can do and what is in your workspace. In agent mode it uses the app's own tools to make notes and events or run research, instead of telling you where to click.
  • Audio attachments: a recording attached to a chat is transcribed when you send it, so you can ask about it.
  • Readable text: nothing readable smaller than 14 pixels, and 16 pixels for main text, across the whole app.
  • Email and calendar fixes: inline images load, numbers display properly, and new events go to a calendar that syncs.
  • Local models recognised as local, so models served from the Mac show up without extra setup.

Ajax

Odysseus's creator announced Ajax: a 9-billion-parameter Qwen model with its refusals removed by Heretic, an open-source tool, made to run locally in Odysseus. The Ajax weights were not published, so my fork documents the same approach applied to a larger model, Qwen3.6-35B, using a community build made with Heretic. I call mine Ajax too, but it is a different model from the official one. It keeps the larger model's ability to read images and runs at about 65 tokens a second on my Mac. A model with its refusals removed is uncensored by design, so using it is a deliberate choice.

My fork, with Ajax, is also the AI server behind beanagileorg on my machine.

I keep the fork current with Odysseus itself. The latest update, on 18 October 2026, brought in 461 changes from the main project. Like Odysseus, it is licensed under the AGPL.
