ht.live choir

By David Plutado Fugate on October 11, 2026, 10:10 PM CDT

The ht.live choir is forming: a community choir that sings regular pop songs, not a classical repertoire, and meets with some regularity.

It's cast, so there's a short audition, but the point is to sing together, not to be perfect. Now and then the choir will step into our shows as a supporting act, for example singing a cappella backing behind someone at karaoke.

The first casting call is still to come. If you'd like to sing, get in touch.

glosso

By David Plutado Fugate on October 11, 2026, 10:10 PM CDT

glosso is ht.live's show for performance built on speech: narrative storytelling told on stage, and mock presentations delivered with a straight face.

It sits beside the comedy nights but isn't one of them. Some of the best speakers aren't comedians, and glosso gives them a stage. Performers are co-featured, so they share in the ticket sales, and every set is recorded for them to use.

The first nights are being planned. More about how the shows work is on Live shows at ht.live.

crowdwork

By David Plutado Fugate on October 11, 2026, 10:10 PM CDT

crowdwork is a comedy night at ht.live built around crowd work: comedians talking with the audience in the room, the part of a set that nobody can write in advance.

A handful of comedians perform each night. Crowd work is also what travels best online as short clips, so every night is recorded, and the comedians keep their footage. Featured comedians share in the ticket sales.

More about the format and the artist deal is on Live shows at ht.live.

comedyclub.cc

By David Plutado Fugate on October 11, 2026, 10:10 PM CDT

comedyclub.cc is a stand-up night at ht.live built on a shared gate: the comedians on the bill share in the ticket sales instead of performing for a flat fee or for nothing.

Like every ht.live show, it's recorded. Comedians get their footage for their own clips and press kits, and the best sets can travel further in packaged livestreams and on Watch Replay.

Dates and the first lineup are being worked out. More about how the shows work is on Live shows at ht.live.

Gun Safety Alliance origin stories

By David Plutado Fugate on October 11, 2026, 10:10 PM CDT

I'm making short video origin stories on behalf of the Gun Safety Alliance: documentaries about how the organisations doing this work began, who started them, and why.

It works like the Social Civic origin stories that ht.live produces for civic groups, but on its own schedule, made directly for the alliance. ht.live produces the films in support.

I also build the alliance's website and help on the tech side.

The first films are being planned. This page will list them as they're released.

The Citizen Spin podcast list

By David Plutado Fugate on October 11, 2026, 10:01 AM CDT

The podcasts I draw guest quotes from, grouped by political leaning as rated by outside watchdogs, and checked against each show's live feed.

Citizen Spin quotes guests from shows across the spectrum. This list is where those shows come from. I do not rate leaning myself: every placement below comes from an outside rater, and every show was checked against its live feed on 2026-10-11. Guests are picked episode by episode while I research a topic, so the list does not try to say which shows book guests.

How the list is built

Two lists merged, checked, then rated by outside watchdogs.

Where the shows come from

  • The Apple Podcasts top 200 in Politics, News Commentary, News and Government.
  • My 2025 list of left, right and balanced shows, after removing the shows and IDs it got wrong.

How leaning is rated

  • Ad Fontes Media first. Each show is rated by a panel of one left, one right and one center analyst, on a scale from -42 (most left) to +42 (most right). It is the only rater here with a center category.
  • Media Matters for America second, only where Ad Fontes has no rating. Its March 2025 study sized 320 online shows by total following; Media Matters is a progressive watchdog and sorts shows only into left and right. Its numbers fill the Following column, in millions of followers across platforms.

What the columns mean

Column Meaning
Ad Fontes bias -42 most left, 0 middle, +42 most right; links to the rating page
Reliability Ad Fontes, 0 to 64; above 36 generally good, below 24 generally problematic
Per week Episodes a week, from the feed: over the last 90 days, or over the span the feed covers if shorter
Apple chart Best position across the four Apple charts
Following Media Matters total following, February 2025

Social Civic

By David Plutado Fugate on October 11, 2026, 6:40 AM CDT

Social Civic is an origin-stories project that runs in cycles. ht.live funds small teams to produce short films, likely under ten minutes, telling the origin stories of civic efforts and nonprofit organisations, along with the other parts of their identity: what they believe, how they speak, what marks them out.

How a cycle runs

  1. The call. I publish a list of issues and a list of organisations working on them, and ask for six teams.
  2. The match. Each team takes one issue and works with one organisation as its client, making a ten-minute film to a shared format.
  3. The teams. People who want to keep working creatively in film and acting. It is not volunteer work: each team gets a stipend, a structure, and a real client to focus on.
  4. The showcase. At the end of the cycle the films screen at ht.live, and perhaps at a local cinema.
  5. The fundraisers. The six organisations then use the films together, holding joint events to raise awareness and celebrate what the cycle produced.

What each side gets

The organisations get a professionally made origin story. The filmmakers get paid, structured work with a real client. The studio gets a slate of films, a showcase night, and a place at the centre of six organisations' fundraising.

Watch Replay

By David Plutado Fugate on October 11, 2026, 6:40 AM CDT

Watch Replay is a streaming channel that ht.live will own and run, at 0-0.tv.

Everything the studio makes is recorded, and Watch Replay is where that work is meant to end up: first the packaged livestreams cut from the live shows, then segments and recorded footage, and in time the episodic productions themselves.

read through

By David Plutado Fugate on October 11, 2026, 6:40 AM CDT

read through is a live table read of a screenplay, usually one I have written, in front of a ticketed audience at ht.live.

Why it exists

A script reads differently out loud. Hearing the whole thing performed shows where it works and where it is weak, and the room tells you faster than any notes can. The longer intention is to decide whether a script should become a film.

What the night is like

The cast sits, scripts in hand. They have had little or no rehearsal, so the evening has the surprise and rawness of people meeting the material for real. It is meant to be in good humour and unpolished. The audience gets that energy; I get an honest hearing.

Three outcomes

  1. The cast earns. Actors in the read sell tickets under the same co-featured deal as the other live shows.
  2. The read is recorded. Segments can go out as livestreams and on Watch Replay.
  3. The script gets better, and perhaps becomes a film.

Live shows at ht.live

By David Plutado Fugate on October 11, 2026, 6:40 AM CDT

At ht.live, the stage is built to give back to the people on it. We host live, ticketed shows in comedy, spoken word and new scripts, and we record every one of them. Booked performers go home with more than a good night: footage that's theirs to use, a real share of what the night brought in, and a shot at a wider audience. And the open mic offers free stage time to anyone who signs up.

The shows

Show What it is
crowdwork Comedy built on conversation with the room: a handful of comedians riffing with the audience, the moments nobody could script
glosso A stage for spoken word: true stories told live, and mock presentations delivered with a straight face
comedyclub.cc Stand-up where the comedians share in the door
debut club Taped live, then shared as a livestream
read through A cast reads a screenplay aloud, barely rehearsed and full of surprises
says.tv Our open mic: sign up ahead and perform free, recording included

Booked shows: what featured artists take home

Every show except the open mic has a booked lineup, and the artists on the bill are co-featured. Here's what that means for you.

  • A share of the door. You earn from tickets two ways: a bigger share of the tickets you sell to your own fans, plus a share of a pool from the whole night's sales. Bring your people and you're rewarded for it; help make a great night and you share in that too.
  • Your recording, unbranded. Every set is recorded, and you get your footage with no ht.live branding on it. Use it however you like: clips for your socials, your press kit, your reel. One ask: please don't credit, tag or link back to ht.live. The footage is meant to stand on its own, so neither of us is ever tied to the other's brand by accident.
  • A spot in the livestreams. We package the best moments from different nights into livestreams that go out on social platforms. We only use segments that are right to share, and never the heart of your act: for a comedian that might be a crowd work riff, not the jokes you'll be taking on the road. When the channels carrying a stream are monetized, there can be a revenue share for the artists in it, and where they aren't yet, we may pay a flat fee ourselves.
  • On demand, down the road. If Watch Replay, our channel, launches, those segments could also be available there to watch on demand.

The open mic

says.tv is where anyone can step up. Sign up ahead for a short slot and the stage is yours, free: no ticket, no fee, and the recording of your set is included. Nobody has to buy anything, though snacks and drinks aren't part of the deal. Spots rotate, so no one takes the stage every week and there's always room for someone new. Open mic sets aren't billed as features, so they sit outside the revenue share. The ".tv" says the rest: even the open mic at ht.live is a show worth capturing.
