Testing Maggie Gyllenhaal's Music Knowledge | Track Star*

The effortlessly cool Maggie Gyllenhaal joined us on the music game show recently. She's one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary film, known for performances and directing work that feel fearless, intelligent, and deeply personal. From indie classics to ambitious studio filmmaking, she’s built a career around bold creative choices - and now returns with The Bride!, a film she describes as carrying a real streak of punk: a celebration of not fitting into the box you’re supposed to fit into.

On this episode of Track Star*, Maggie takes us through the songs that shaped her - from childhood memories of Graceland playing in the car with her brother Jake, to discovering Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) at five years old, to teenage summers soundtracked by Personal Jesus. She talks about why A Case of You felt like “breathing in and breathing out,” how David Byrne helped shape a pivotal moment in *The Lost Daughter*, and why There Is a Light That Never Goes Out now connects generations in her own family.

Enjoy!
